Natural skin care and “high performance” skin care are not mutually exclusive
We love natural skin care. We wouldn’t have started our own natural skin care company if we didn’t. But some people are under the mistaken impression that natural skin care can’t be cutting-edge or high performance… and that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Natural ingredients can be high performance, and high performance ingredients can be natural
Natural skin care products are those which do not contain chemical ingredients such as parabens, sulfates, petrolatum, formaldehydes, GMO’s or artificial fragrances or colors. Fortunately, skin care products can be highly effective without these ingredients that are harmful to our skin or the environment.
In the past few years, as innovative products and ingredients enter the skin care scene, new ingredients and applications are being discovered – and oftentimes a plant or fruit extract is proven to produce better results than what can be created in a lab.
Not all things created in a lab are “bad”
One of the most important advances in skin care in the past few decades has been the use of peptides in skin care. By definition, a peptide is a compound consisting of two or more amino acids linked in a chain, the carboxyl group of each acid being joined to the amino group of the next by a bond. These peptides are produced naturally within a biological process: Our bodies produce many different types of peptides.
But naturally-produced peptides can be inefficient. Which is where science comes in. By taking apart an original, natural peptide, a new molecule can be created with the desired traits – working more safely and efficiently than the naturally-produced peptide. So those peptides created in a “lab” were created from a natural process, but “tweaked” just a bit. This produces a more efficient, effective ingredient.
What is left out of skin care is often just as important as what is put in
Even before the Microbead-Free Waters Act of 2015 became law, those of us committed to natural and healthy skin care had found other alternatives to the tiny plastic beads that were polluting our waterways. Mellisa B Naturally’s Microdermabrasion Scrub uses sustainably-harvested Ecuadorian Ivory Palm Seed Powder to provide the gentle polishing action one expects from a scrub. It’s gentle on your skin – and the environment.
Take care of your skin – responsibly
We all want beautiful, healthy skin. And many (if not most) of us are conscious of the types of ingredients we put on and in our bodies – and how those ingredients affect not only us, but our environment. That’s why a focus on natural skin care is important – natural skin care that is responsible, safe and effective.
We will continue to innovate – making sure that every skin care product in our line is responsible, safe, and effective.
