Incorporate a mask once a week into your skin care routine
A very important part of any skin care regimen – especially an anti-aging skin care regimen – is a weekly mask treatment. Unfortunately, the weekly mask is one of the steps that often gets skipped; whether due to time constraints, or an unpleasant mask experience, some women just don’t use masks as part of their routine. But, there are many reasons they should.
Masks have come a long way
When I was younger, I remember my mom getting face masks from the drugstore. They were gooey and slightly slimy, and I remember that she waited until it dried completely, and then peeled it off. And I think I saw her use these masks maybe a total of 10 times the whole time I lived at home.
Today, masks come in a vast array of ingredients, with many different benefits. Some are meant to draw out impurities; some bring added moisture; some exfoliate; and no matter what your skin type, there is a mask that will fit into your weekly skin care routine.
Finding the right mask for you
First, you need to determine your skin type, and what your skin needs most. For example, if you have dry skin, you want to avoid ingredients like sulfur and clay, and even tea tree oil – as these can be drying. Though most other oils found in masks (Argan Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, etc.) will help moisturize.
If you have oily skin, clay masks may help absorb some of that excess oil. Kaolin, Sea Salt, and Mud are also ingredients that can absorb excess oil from the skin. A gentle exfoliating mask, with a focus on light moisturizers, will work best for combination skin.
Using a mask for Anti-Aging
Almost every woman over the age of 30 has incorporated some form of anti-aging skin care into her routine. Applying a weekly mask is one of the best things you can do to help keep skin looking healthy and youthful.
Mellisa B Naturally has formulated a Pumpkin & Coconut Exfoliating Mask that is a perfect addition to any anti-aging skin care regimen. Superfoods Coconut Oil and Pumpkin keep skin clean and nourished, while kaolin helps clear pores. The gentle exfoliation is provided by Ecuadorean Ivory Palm Seed Powder – which will help remove impurities without harsh scrubbing.
While Mellisa B Naturally’s Pumpkin & Coconut Exfoliating Mask is appropriate for most skin types, we do recommend patch testing any new product. Those with very sensitive skin, or those experiencing irritation, may want to avoid masks that incorporate any exfoliating ingredients, as even gentle exfoliation may increase irritation.
If you aren’t sure about skin care masks
There are plenty of masks on the market with natural ingredients that won’t break the bank – and Mellisa B Naturally’s Pumpkin & Coconut Mask is one of them. There are also many DIY masks to be found – though many of them can be messy, and if you don’t already have all the ingredients on hand, they can get pretty pricey.
Either way, using a mask can make a positive difference in your skin care routine – and in the health and beauty of your skin. If you aren’t already using a great mask, what are you waiting for?!
